LAWS Volunteer Program
Training Overview

Volunteer training is offered once a year during September and October. It consists of 30 hours of instruction in the psychological, social, and legal aspects of family violence, sexual assault and stalking, as well as training in empathetic listening and crisis intervention. It is important that you attend all of the training to meet the needs of our community effectively.

Topics for the training include:

  • LCSJ/LAWS history, history of the battered women's movement, overview of services
  • Working with children of domestic violence homes
  • Educating teens on violence prevention and healthy relationships
  • Domestic Violence 101
  • Cultural Considerations in working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Overview of the D.A.R.T. program
  • Law Enforcement's involvement in domestic violence and sexual assault cases
  • Civil and Criminal Legal Cases: process and our role
  • Sexual Assault 101
  •
