LAWS Volunteer Program
Dear Prospective Volunteer,
Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering with Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice/Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS). We appreciate your valuable time and commitment to helping people in our community. Volunteering with LCSJ/LAWS programs is an educational and rewarding experience. We have a variety of programs that allow for many different ways for volunteers to contribute their time and talent, listed below.
Shelter Services
- Childcare: During appointments, at shelter.
- Donations and Supply Coordinator: Help bring to shelter and organize.
- Maintenance: Minor household repairs, yard work, painting, etc.
- Hotline: Mon-Fri 10am-2pm; 2pm-6pm; 6pm-9pm shifts
Weekends 10am-1pm
Additional training is required.
- Transportation: Drive shelter residents to appointments (medical, social
services, child care, etc.)
Sexual Assault Services
- Teen Violence Prevention Program: Public speaking, community events,
Teen forums, musical events, designing and marketing.
- Volunteer Coordinator: Help implement our volunteer program, including
recruitment, appreciation, and help with training.
Youth and Children's Program
- Support Groups on weekday evenings: Childcare, facilitators,
10-week commitment
- Parenting Program. Childcare, facilitators and assistants to facilitators, 8- and 10-week commitments.
- Nurturing Program materials preparation (as needed)
- Supervised Visitations (must have Human Services Experience)
- Administrative: Data entry
- Maintenance: Clean toys and dispose of broken items
Administrative Services
- Reception Services: Greet guests and clients, answer phones
- Fundraising
- Data Entry
- Newsletter Design/ Composition
- Maintenance of Office Facility
Legal Services
- Court Advocates: Accompany clients to court intake, explain process,
accompany attorney to Court. Additional training is required.
Resourceful Woman Thrift Shop
- The Resourceful Woman Thrift Store is located at 11A Loudoun St. in
Leesburg.
- Volunteers are needed to welcome, sort, and price donations, as well as
design merchandise displays and assist customers.
- The shop is open Tues-Sat 10-5.
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for LAWS. If you would like to enroll for our next volunteer class, please fill out these application forms and return them to LAWS, 105 East Market Street, Leesburg, VA 20176. Attention: Hannah Lindsay. Once your forms are received, we will give you a call and arrange a time for you to come and meet with us prior to the start of the training.
Volunteering at LAWS can be a very rewarding experience. As you can see from the information on the website, there are many opportunities available. The Training Overview will provide you a summary of the course and staff will be glad to answer any of your questions.
